A longtime resident of East Hanover, New Jersey, Carlie moved to Brodheadsville about three years ago and attended Pleasant Valley High School, her obituary says.

Remembered as a “true Jersey girl,” Carlie loved spending summers on the beach and on the boardwalk. She also embraced her artistic side in the form of fashion, makeup, and drawing, her memorial says.

“Carlie’s adventurous nature and free, spontaneous spirit was a hallmark of her short but well-lived life,” reads her obituary.

“Although she possessed a rare and striking beauty, it is her fiercely loyal heart that will be missed and remembered the most by her cherished family and friends.”

Carlie is survived by her loving mother, Meredith Anne Catalano; her step-father, Thomas Herold; three brothers, Justin Gerard Peterson, Shaun Thomas Herold, and Joseph Cain Herold; two sisters, Ashlie Jade DosSantos and Amanda Rose Peterson; paternal grandmother, Rose Anne Gingerelli, grandfather, Charles Peterson, and many close friends.

Meanwhile, more than $14,600 had been raised on a GoFundMe launched for Carlie’s memorial expenses, surpassing the campaign’s $11,250 goal in just one day.

“Beyond the sheer devastation of such a tremendous loss, her heartbroken family is now left to make arrangements with little time and resources to properly honor Carlie's memory and say our last goodbyes,” the fundraiser says.

“As a longtime friend of the family, I ask that you will find it in your hearts to help ease the burden of burial.”

Carlie’s memorial was scheduled for Tuesday, April 11 at Hancliffe Home for Funerals in East Hanover.

“She was true sunshine and we are certain her light will continue to shine from the Heavens,” reads one fundraiser comment. “May she rest in eternal peace.”
